TopDressing for Your Lawn
What Exactly is Topdressing?
Topdressing might sound fancy, but it’s one of the simplest ways to boost your lawn’s health and appearance.
It involves spreading a thin layer of material over your grass to improve its soil and encourage growth.
For yard leveling, we recommend to always go with a mix because organic compost adds organic matter, enriching the soil and boosting nutrients, while sand improves drainage and levels uneven spots. Together, they create the perfect balance for a lush, vibrant lawn.
But no matter which ingredient you use, one is certain: topdressing is as easy as it is effective!
A soil amendment is any material added to a soil to improve its physical properties, such as water retention, permeability, water infiltration, drainage, aeration, and structure. The goal is to provide a better environment for roots.

TOPDRESSING WITH ORGANIC COMPOST
we use CARBONIZ PN AND/OR screened ORGANIC COMPOST
We use screened Organic Compost from your local Lawn Landscape Supply and/or as an alternative option, Mirimichi Green CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer materials for top dressing your lawn. We also use sand mixed with organic compost to help with yard leveling.
Topdressing can improve soil biology by adding organic matter and the beneficial microorganisms found in compost.
Topdressing regularly can smooth out bumps caused by worm castings & encourages a dense, lush lawn.
Topdressing reduces lawn stresses, helps keep thatch under control, and acts as a long-term natural fertilizer.
Adding organic matter to a lawn by topdressing with compost is arguably the most beneficial cultural practice that the science of lawn care has to offer.

CarbonizPN is a soil amendment blend of proprietary activated biochar (USDA Certified Biobased Carbon) and Composted Premium Organic Material.
We recommend combining Core Aeration + Organic Compost and/or CarbonizPN + Fertilizer for Optimal results for your initial Service.
Then repeat yearly and follow your Grass Type's Lawn Maintenance Calendar.
TOPDRESSING TO HELP LEVEL YOUR LAWN
If your lawn is “true sand” it is best to use screened Organic Compost & and sand to level your lawn.
You can use 70% Sand / 30% Organic Compost to help level your lawn
OR 80% Sand / 20% Organic Compost
OR 50% Sand / 50% Organic Compost.
Note: It takes repeated topdressing as this is NOT a 1st time fix.
We recommend at least 1/4" - 1/2" at each application and wait 2-3 months before applying the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or however many applications needed to help level your lawn. Keep re-applying organic compost every 2-3 months until you reach the level desired.
Other reasons of using Organic Compost with sand is increasing CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) and potential for better adjusting Soil pH to create a better environment for plants.

CarbonizPN® Soil Enhancer by Mirimichi Green
Soil Amendment - Granular Soil Enhancer
Healthy plants start with healthy soil.
CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer is a soil amendment that helps plants thrive by improving the efficiency of the soil. CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer is composed of CarboMatrix™ Technology. The activated carbon (biochar) inoculated with premium organics remain in the soil to reduce compaction, drive root growth, increase fertility and water absorption, and decrease nutrient leaching.
Soils are often depleted of a well-balanced nutrient makeup. The USDA Certified Biobased Carbon (biochar) in CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer works to lockup heavy metals and unleash the macronutrients and micronutrients trapped in the soil and make them available to the root system. By adding CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer into the soil profile, beneficial microorganisms can create a home in the carbon structure and enhance the soil biology complex.
CarbonizPN Soil Enhancer is excellent for: establishing turf, new seed, topdressing, sod installations, hydroseeding, potted plants and plant beds, tree and shrubs, nurseries, gardens, and more.
Note: Due to the product’s consistency, walk-behind spreaders do not perform well if you decide to use CarbonizPN personally and often clog so they are not recommended. You'll need to use CarbonPro G with the Mirimichi Green Logo on the bag.

Learn what makes plants grow and how you can cultivate a thriving, sustainable garden – the natural way. “Life in the Soil” explains the science behind healthy soil. Microbes, like bacteria and fungi, provide essential nutrients that help plants grow. However, human activity can deplete the soil of these valuable microbes. Planting with certified organic soils and amendments helps restore the symbiotic relationship between plants and the environment, which stimulates growth.
Conserve Time & Resources With These 4 Tips:
1.) Think Organically – Using certified organic materials promotes growth naturally.
2.) Plant Native – Planting native plants encourages ecological balance with the area.
3.) Strive for 5 – Using 5% organic matter in soil promotes microbe growth and improves soil structure, as recommended by the U.S. Composting Council.
4.) 3 saves 30 – Placing 3 inches of nutrient-rich organic mulch matter on top of your soil garden beds can conserve up to 30% more water.
