Control Your Weeds & Insectides + Fertilizer with Super Sod CHAMP Lawn Coach
Soil sampling and testing can be used as a management tool to help in decisions related to fertilizer and limestone applications for commercially grown crops, home gardens, fruit trees, ornamentals, and lawns. It provides a scientific basis for maintaining optimum soil fertility levels and proper soil pH values to help attain maximum plant growth and economic yields. Soil testing also protects against the expense and environmental hazards resulting from excessive fertilizer applications. A subsoil test for sandy Coastal Plain soils will provide information for adjusting fertilizer recommendations based on the topsoil.
There are several nutrients that are essential for plant growth. A soil test is used to determine the amount of these nutrients in the soil. The soil test results are subsequently used to make a soil test report. In addition to indicating the level of nutrients in your soil, the report will also tell you the pH value or how acidic or basic your soil is, and it will make a recommendation for the amount and type of fertilizer and/or lime you need to add to the soil for optimum plant growth. This allows you to customize your soil fertilizer and lime applications to your plants’ needs.
Notes:
Add Lime to increase pH and/or Add SULFUR to decrease pH (normally fall / wintertime is best to spread Sulfur).
Test for both Soil pH and OM Organic Material % for your soil.
Test Yearly until you get the optimum pH, then every 2 years thereafter.
Follow your Soil pH instructions on how much and what to spread once you receive the results.
